Islam As A Religion

"Righteous is he who believes in Allah and the Last Day and the Angels and the Scriptures and the Prophets."
- Qur'an 2:177

Throughout Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi has faced a lot of life challenges, which are all associated with the Islamic Revolution. In order to safeguard her family from being caught and teased, she was forced to act fundamentally as what a proper Islamic woman should act, which includes wearing the veil and lying about praying five times a day. For this reason, studying the basic view on Islam as a religion is a good idea before reading Persepolis even further.

First of all, Islam is a monotheistic religion that has a basis from the sacred book of Qur'an, which is written by the Prophet Muhammad in the 7th century. Today, this particular belief has spread around the world and has grown to become the second largest religion in the world. The word "Islam" itself means "submission to the will of God"(BBC). Islamic believes in "One, Unique, Incomparable God", whom I believe is who little Marjane used to talk to.

Furthermore, Islam practices are defined through the Five Pillars of Islam which includes faith, prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, and alms. As Muslims, it is required for each followers to undertake the routines and fulfill the requirements of the Five Pillars of Islam. (ReligionFacts)

Alice in DisastrousLand

Alice: Oh my...Where am I?

Monica: You're in the world where Wonderland doesn't exists and that you are in the size the way you should be.

Alice: Tis' not Wonderland? That's impossible. I went through the same rabbit hole. And may I ask, where does this bad scent of burn comes from?

Monica: Oh, not again! These days many buildings and roads were burned. They said that some group of religious fanatics were behind all of these madness. It's so terrible, you wouldn't want to know more about this ...

Alice: Oh my Lord. Back in my land, all people seems so nice and all flowers were so colorful, unlike here. Even Mr. Rabbit and Mr. Hookah the Caterpillar can talk. I hated here, I want to go home.

Monica: Well, I think it's better for you to go back to whatever hole you come from. No offense, but you'll suffer living in here. There are too many bad people here that maybe worse than the Queen of Hearts.

Alice: (sobbing) You're all mad, "you're entirely bonkers"!

Monica: Well, let me tell you a secret, Alice. "All the best people are."
